1. Advocacy and Networking
This entails the Organisation undertaking advocacy campaigns to influence legal and policy issues pertinent to the oversight role enjoyed by the media in Uganda. HRNJ-Uganda will undertake different forms of advocacy that include; legal advocacy and Media advocacy and legislative advocacy at national, regional and international levels depending on the nature of the problem being addressed and will engage at a level that adds value to the work of human rights journalists or where critical mass is of consequence. HRNJ-Uganda will engage in both proactive and reactive advocacy. Read More
2. Documentation and Research
This entails undertaking research and documenting human right violations, monitoring and reporting to treaty and regional bodies on the country’s performance in regard to the international human rights instruments. HRNJ-Uganda will commission numerous investigative missions on national topical and human rights at large which shall be widely documented and used as evidences in courts of law, for reporting and media and other campaigns. Because of the strategic linkages between HNRJ and Media Houses in Uganda, HRNJ-Uganda will expose such violations and other practices of the state that demonstrate compelling elements. Read More
3. Capacity Building and Outreach
This involves several activities implemented to strengthen the skills and capacity learning of HRNJ-Uganda secretariat staff, volunteers, interns and the members of the organization. The programme aims at enhancing the capacity of the staff and members to undertake their various interventions in defence of human rights. The Network will deliver trainings to enable the members to accumulate the required skills and knowledge to effectively impact on the human rights situation in the country. HRNJ-Uganda will also explore opportunities for its staff and members to enhance their contribution to human rights promotion and protection. Read More
4. Institutional Development
This area of focus entails to strengthen the operation and policy context with the purpose of strengthening its systems, structures and programmes in order to enhance its output. This underscores the relevance of building confidence of the various publics to whom HRNJ-Uganda accounts and also building a credible image as a journalists’ human rights body. Institutional capacity building will enable the organisation to explore numerous funding opportunities available from development partners for the protection, promotion and upholding of human rights in Uganda as it values the significance of financial resources in building a strong institutional apparatus that can engage the state at consistent level. 5. Leagal Defence and Support Program
This entails that the organisation will offer free legal service to journalists and some members of society who are risk as ar esult of expressing themselves on issues that concern them. The organisation will undertake different forms of legal defence through internal and external legal teams mainly to save jouranalists from harrassment, unlawful arrest and dentention,intimidation,use of detective charges against them and persecution among others. These will include; direct representation to quickly rescue any journalist at police for interrogation or in courts of law facing both criminal and civil charges because of his work; strategic litigation that.
